G'day all,
Been tooling around with a Depron build of this big , ugly twin. I've had to modify the build technique as the Depron I have is not the same as the Dollar Store paper-coated stuff FT uses , so it's been a steep learning curve , but finally getting somewhere now. I have 2 Hobbyking Donkey ST 3007 motors which came as a combo complete with 20Amp ESC's and both 8"and 9" three-blade counter-rotating props to try out when it is ready for maiden.

I hope to have it ready for Sunday 29/3 and depending how confident I feel , might give it a fly. Or see if there's a mode 2 pilot who can maiden it for me? They seem to be quite an impressive slow-flyer and carry heaps of payload.

BTW - I have a whole heap of this 6mm Depron - 16 sheets , 1000x700x nominal 5-6mm , and if anyone wants to have a crack I'll let some go for $8 each which is about my cost .
This things taken about 3 sheets + 1 for screwups. Shoot me a PM if you want any by Sunday or 0408873622. I'll put the verniers over a bit to get a more accurate thickness.

Now has all servos installed. 2X Hobbyking Donkey motors with opposite rotation , a 3-Axis gyro and steerable nose-wheel. I'ts so ugly I just love it and it seems perfectly on COG with a 3S 2200 , which is all the FliteTest guys use.

Just about to set the control throws to the recommended positions - they even do a printable angle gauge with the throws set for mild or stroppy. An easy build thus far and now I have the power-pods for other projects.

Going to replace the empennage with the paper covered foam board before flying. It's a lot more rigid and I suspect there might be a tad of flutter with the uncoated Depron.
It's also easy enough to coat the Tradewarehouse Depron with brown masking paper or tape while its in sheet form.

Ain't done it yet ---waiting on E-Flite receivers to arrive - cancelled one order from China after they faffed about and got some more on the way - any day now.

Took it out to the Lakes this arvo and gave it a fly. It really is nice and flies better than it looks. I will be replacing the HXT900 elevator servo with something with a bit more grunt as it was difficult to get a decent flare on landing and the nose-gear took a bit of a hiding. I put it down to the thing being quite short-coupled with the current full elevator deflection being just fine for most flying but just not quite enough at landing speeds. I'll play around with the COG as well.
Otherwise takeoff and landings are no drama at all.
I'm also going to beef up the landing gear. But generally it is a great flyer and seems to have plenty of lift for payloads. It seems quite happy on about 25% power and only starts to sink below that. Just using a 3000mAh 3S pack in the nose.
